2Peas Challenge: Post a Random Photo

The first thing I discovered when trying to do this challenge was that I have a really hard time being random. I put way too much thought into exactly *how* I should select this random photo. I tried several methods and discovered pitfalls with each:

First idea: Set up a "timeline" slide show in Picasa. Decide that #37 is a good random number. Watch slide show, counting. Lose count and start again. Choose photo #37 as the random photo. Realize that photo #37 could not be posted. Neither could #36 or #38.

Next idea: Pick photo folder #37, then pick photo #37 in that folder. Another bad idea. There is no photo #37 in that folder. And many of the photos in that folder have already been posted on my blog. You surely don't want to see those again. You probably didn't want to see them the first time.

Yet another idea: Close eyes and randomly click on any photo in the "My Pictures" folder. Try several times and discover that none of the pictures selected could be posted for various reasons: They were photos of DD (which I tend not to post), poor quality, similar to those I've posted before, or photos that no one would possibly want to see (such as the inside of a box or the tires on a mousetrap car. Why do we have those photos, anyway?)

In the end, I closed my eyes and clicked on the "Tulip Time 2005" folder. (OK, first I clicked on the "Tulip Time 2006" folder, but I knew those were lousy photos so decided to go with 2005 instead.) Within the selected random folder, I closed my eyes and clicked randomly on a photo of yellow tulips.

A little bright, I thought. Let's go with the pink ones instead.

Lesson learned: It takes way too much thought being random.

Too funny! I just put the closest CD in and picked one I liked...that was as random as I got!

I hope that you got the picture that I sent to your home e-mail address. It was random and lots of fun. I closed my eyes and my friend Cecilie's pic came up at a Christmas party. Why she had the bows on her head is a really good question.

Funny post :) For those of us who are planners, randomness (is that a real word?) is difficult!

OMG! Janet, this is too funny! I was lol and dh was like "what the heck are you laughing at?". It is a very difficult decision, especially when you (meaning you)have so many wonderful photos to choose from. The minute I read the challenge I already had my photo pictured in my head. I was lucky this time. Thanks for making me smile today!

LOL!!! "too much thought to be random".... how true!!!

I never did the challenge. If I did I would probably be choosing something I took a photo of 100 times before I got one I like (you think I kid). I probably took 30 photos of an ice cube melting the other day... and they are all STILL on my memory card!

Oh, and I forgot....

Love the tulips! Reminds me of my trip to Holland years (eons) ago...

Colleen, Sharon, Toners, Lynn, and Maureen -- Thank you for your comments and support with my lack of randomness! If you only knew...I would LOVE to be more random and spontaneous. But alas, I even have to plan for spontaneity...

Maureen -- I challenge you to do this challenge! I'll give you until December 31 to select one random photo, OK? :-)

It's so funny - I was just thinking today about how hard "random" was for me. Of course, I was thinking of it in relation to listening to songs on the ipod shuffle & how much it hurt my brain to wonder why there were often two songs in a row by the same artist and how much I wouldn't want to understand it if I could... I think random is a hard concept for those of us that are really compulsive!

Jill -- I can't even handle the idea of shuffle! That's how *unrandom* and compulsive I am. A sad commentary, huh?? Janet

Janet -
I resisted the shuffle forever & ever! Finally my dad convinced me to try it as I was describing to him how difficult it was to match an ***exact*** album/CD to my ***exact*** mood. (see? feeling less compulsive now? :-) Now I'm a true believer - as long as you're not at one extreme mood or another, the shuffle can be a really easy choice! Try it sometime! At most you'd waste 20 minutes or so. :-)

Ok off to Borders to pick up my depressing CD that I ordered that I'll only be able to listen to when I'm either already so depressed nothing will help OR I'm asleep! :-)
