Tinsel and Lily are strictly indoor kitties. They love to go outside, but when we take them out for a walk, we always use a harness and leash.
Once the weather turns warm each spring, they sit at the window and gaze outside longingly. Sometimes they even run to the door and meow. When I see this behavior, I always feel a little bit guilty about keeping them inside, but my desire to keep them safe outweighs any guilt!

This evening, I took each kitty outside separately to the patio for a good brushing and a special little treat: Since it was a quiet evening, they each got to explore the patio for awhile without the leash. I stood with them as they walked around slowly and cautiously, smelling the flowers and grass.
After a few minutes, it was time to go back inside. It may not be quite as exciting as the patio, but it's safe!

I know what you mean. My Sam stares outside quite a bit. I've had her since she was 5 weeks old. She'll be 13 this summer. She's *always* lived indoors. Occasionally, I have taken her into the fenced backyard and let her explore, but with all the large trees out there and small gaps under the fence, we don't stay long.
Sweet photos! :) I know exactly how you feel about keeping them safe. They are, after all, our babies. DH & I added a 6 foot privacy fence to our backyard several years ago so we can let ours run around when we are out there. I won't let them out unsupervised though because even in the confines of our backyard, they sometimes get into trouble.
Did they approve of all your new plantings?
Yep ours are also indoor kitties and some love it and some wish to go out but sorry, too dangerous outside, a lot of mean people and basically they just stare out the window.Looks like they had a great time.
Looks like they had a great time outside. We take our cats out too, but only when we're out, but they hang pretty close anyway. I'm glad the weather has finally warmed up enough to enjoy being out!!!
Same with my cats, they are only out on my little patio with supervision. (I would worry myself sick about them if they were running free, too much traffic and too many crazys.) By the way, the yard is looking very nice!
just today dd bought her kitty a leash and harness. My kitties are indoor kitties, but have NO interest in going outside. Must be the our 2 dogs...
Aw, how cute! Only one of our three indoor cats gets a small walk outside on our backyard patio. I am always within reach, so she just gets a quick sniff and explore around. I too am scared to have any of our cats (or even the dog!) outside alone.
I do the same with my kittes. We are doing the right thing by keeping them safe.
I love it when our kitties go outside with us. They freak over every little movement, bird, insect, sound, etc. It's pretty funny to watch them and they usually want to go back in pretty quickly.
