One of the first plants to bloom in my perennial beds each year is the Pasque Flower. "Pasque" means Easter, as the plant blooms around that time each year. Over the next few weeks, this native prairie plant will be covered with beautiful purple flowers.
Whenever I see the Pasque Flower in bloom, I know that spring has really, truly arrived!

Now that most of the 3' of snow has melted following our last storm, I am almost believing that Spring is coming - it is the third week of April already, right? Are we done with snow yet? Fingers crossed...

Mollie, I have crocus, too, and know what you mean. The bunnies eat them around here! I have never seen Pasque Flowers at any local greenhouse, but I'm sure you could find them online or at a place that specializes in perennials. I actually got them in a box of perennials a few years back as a thank you gift for renewing my public television membership. The box was full of some unusual perennials that I hadn't seen before. Most of them have done really well!
