March Madness!

This early March weather is just plain weird. By the looks of things around here, spring has arrived a good four to six weeks earlier than usual. I'm not complaining, but the early warm temperatures caught me by surprise. In just the past week, my perennials have shot up to the point where I'm going to have to buy mulch very soon or I'll have a difficult time spreading it. Come to think of it, I haven't even seen mulch for sale around here yet!

While we're enjoying nice weather right now, we still have to remember that here in the Midwest, the weather can change quickly. It's really too early to plant or bedding or prepare pots. I just hope that we don't get a hard freeze (or snow!) at this point, now that so many flowers are in bloom.

Pictured above are hyacinth, bluebells, columbine, vinca ground cover, monarda, sedum, and Pasque flower. The Pasque flower (meaning "Easter" in French) is always the first to bloom, but this year it has plenty of company!

Beautiful! So far, the only things blooming for me are my Hyacinths & my Magnolia. We got a freeze last night & I covered up my Magnolia, but it still doesn't look very good this morning :( Can't wait to see more of your flower picks as they bloom!

Thanks, Benita! I'm sorry to hear you got a freeze. Hope your magnolia comes out of it OK. I'm crossing my fingers that we don't get a freeze, but it wouldn't surprise me. We've had snow in April in past years...

Thanks Janet....the ones that have already opened look hopeless, but I'm praying that the buds will still bloom on it. Yep, we've had snow in April in the past, too....hope that doesn't happen this year! I enjoyed seeing everything bloom early this year, but I think our plants are gonna pay for it :(
