Nom, Nom, Nom....

You may recall that we've recently had some windows repaired and completely removed, resulting in more than a few little critters taking up residence inside our house. Last night, I was working on the computer when Lily started jumping at the wall. She had spotted a bug up near the ceiling and was trying her best to capture it.

Before removing the bug from the house, I decided to lift Lily up so she could get a better look. Here is sort of what the 1.5" bug looked like (I guess he was a box elder bug, but his legs seemed awfully long for that):

Well...I had no sooner hoisted plump Lily up to see the bug than... SMACK! She grabbed him with both front paws and stuffed him in her mouth!

In an instant, she swallowed the poor bug WHOLE, without chewing!

YIKES! YUCK!

I was at once disgusted and concerned about what Lily had just done. Sure, Lily's mommy was a farm cat, but she leads an indoor life. She does NOT capture her own food (other than an occasional stray Cheeto). She has certainly never eaten anything alive and potentially pesticide-laden! This wild behavior caught me completely off guard.

I gingerly sat her down on the floor. Our Lily stood in the middle of the room with a bewildered expression on her face, then....

BOING! She sprang straight up in the air!

She walked a few steps, hesitated, then...

BOING! Up she went again!

This walking and jumping continued for a good 30 minutes. Seriously, when I got past my disgust, it was the funniest thing I'd seen in a long time.

Our Lily: Gotta love her. :-)

Guess she'll learn not to eat live things again. I'm sure it was the bug jumping in her tummy. The acid hadn't got it yet. I'm picturing Jonah in whale from Veggie Tales, maybe the bug was floating on a makeshift raft!

Oh goodness. Well, when I was in middle school I used to put my cat Dr. Suess into the bathtub eat any spiders that had gotten into the tub in the night.

Sugar will chase a bug a little bit, but I've been disappointed when it comes to actually eating the bugs. He's such a finicky eater. It's great that you have a bug eating cat! I loved it when Suess would eat the bugs for me!

Ooooh my!!
but thanks for the chuckle this morning.

I have a bug eating cat, but he also licks the blinds, so he is just overall weird.

OMGosh! LOL about her jumping. Mine will go after bugs, but typically just to play with them. Once the playing is done (ie, they've killed it and it's no longer fun), they leave me the remains to deal with. Ick.

Too funny! Our kitten bounces around the house, I'm starting to wonder if she is part rabbit.
