Marimba on Monday

In case you haven't had the opportunity to see or hear a marimba, I thought I'd share a bit of one of DD's practice sessions over break. I love the sound of this instrument!

But first, a couple of important disclaimers:
1) Viewer must overlook relatively poor quality of the film -- it was made with a digital camera.
2) Viewer must not gasp at the sight of flowered wallpaper in the entryway --it will be coming down soon!

That said, enjoy!

Very cool! I wondered what one sounded like when you mentioned bringing it home to practice in another post. Thanks for sharing! :)

That's beautiful. It'd almost be worth shelling out the big $ just to hear it everyday, of course you'd have to keep your DD around to play it or learn how yourself once she goes off to college!!!! Love the bare feet!
Thanks for sharing.

Heather-thank you! It's such a pretty instrument. I was sad when it went back to school today.

Fonda-Believe me, I've considered it, but $8,000+ is a LOT of money, and as you can see it takes a lot of space! Our music area in the basement runneth over! Thx for your nice comments! See ya soon!

Thank you, guys! She does play very well and it's always a treat when I get to listen. I never really knew the difference between the various "mallet" instruments until she took up percussion. Now marimba is my favorite! Thx for listening!

My daughter is a music major in college (piano), and one of the percussion, marimba students played for an honors recital recently. It was AWESOME! Unbelievable how they handle 4 mallets at once. Your daughter is well on her way! It's just a beautiful sound.
