Fair photo challenge: Everything on a stick that I didn't eat

It seems that every year at the fair, you can find new and different kinds of food on on a stick. For one of my personal photo challenges this year, I set out to take pictures of things you could find on a stick. I quickly realized that I would gain a lot of weight if I actually ATE all the things on a stick in order to get photos, so I opted to take pictures of the signs instead.

The quintessential Iowa food on a stick seems to be the pork chop. Did you know there are more pigs than people in Iowa? It's true! But here's the deal...the stick is not really a stick. It's the bone of the pork chop. I do not eat anything on a bone. Way too Flintstones for me. :-)

Here's a new stand (at least someone told me it was new) featuring shrimp and chicken on a stick. Deep fried, of course. I don't eat deep fried things, either, but I hear this stuff is great.

Looking for a more healthful option? This is surely the way to go. Although I like salad, I didn't eat this either.

The corn dog is another traditional state fair food on a stick. Daughter eats way more of these than she should at the fair. Correct me if I'm wrong, fellow Iowans, but I believe this is the original/oldest corn dog stand at our fair. Oh, a couple of years ago I ate a corn dog, just because it seemed like the right thing to do. Won't be doing that again!

If you don't like regular deep fried cheese curds (I don't), you might try Cajun Cheeze on a Stick. No idea how this tastes. Although I love Cajun food, I'm not a huge cheese fan (sorry, Wisconsin friends!).

Need more fruit in your state fair diet? How about Deep Fried Pineapple on a Stick? If it weren't deep fried, I'd probably try it, except then it would just be Pineapple on a Stick. Which might actually be OK.

This stand has something for everyone: Deep Fried Oreos, Deep Fried Twinkies, and Deep Fried Candy Bars. You guessed it...all on a stick. And nope, I didn't eat any of it it.

So there you have it: A few snapshots of fair food (that I didn't eat) on a stick. For those of you braver than me, which food on a stick have YOU tried?

LAD and I actually got corndogs from that stand this year and I have to say it was the best corn dog I have ever eaten, not that I've eaten a lot, but I've had some really bad ones, so that ought to count for something! We never saw the Pineapple on a stick or we might have tried that, so we opted for a funnel cake instead. And several glasses of fresh lemonade of course. So in all, we didn't junk it up too bad! In the past we've also had the pork chops on a stick and they are very good, an excellent choice considering some of the alternatives! Thanks for sharing your pics!!!

LOL at the salad on a stick! Don't want to have the health-conscious in the group feeling left out! But seriously...I try to avoid deep-fried foods, but chicken on a stick is great. A place in the town where I work serves them. Oh, and as if there isn't enough fat in the breading & grease, they're served with a side of ranch dressing for dipping. Mmmm!

What a hoot! I've had the deep fried candy bars on a stick. Yum! But it's been years. Maybe this year I'll seek out a special food on a stick. ;)

BTW, I left something for you on my blog HERE

When I go to the fair, I usually work my way through all the food stands and corn dogs is right up there with the best of the best. It's one time a year when I really indulge..and I don't go to the fair that often, so when I do, I belly up to them food stands. Then try to do lots of walking to offset the calories!!

I have to say that of all the fair food that I have eaten in past years, the corn dog on a stick is my favorite. It's been so long since I have been to a fair that it was the only food served on a stick. The rest are just copycats. Love the pictures, Janet. Thanks for sharing all of them.

I'm proud to say that of all the things I DID eat at the fair this year, NONE of them were on a stick...LOL!

This was funny, who knew you could just pop a stick in anything and call it fair food. I don't think my stomach could handle half of that stuff.

I am a 4-H alumni, so perhaps that's why we tend to stick to the food tents, where the food is marginally healthy. I love the pulled pork sandwiches at one of the main places. My DH and sometimes the boys do like a good corn dog. I, like you, could go the rest of my life and never miss corn dogs, or most other deep-fat fried stuff.

Exceptions: We have a turkey fryer and every 1-2 years we have tempura (sweet potatoes, green beans, mushrooms, chicken, and shrimp are the best of all the things we've tried), the occasional French fry, and again every 1-2 years, at home, DH's "Flamin' Jeff's Hot Wings"...the only hot wings I have EVER liked:)

So I guess that makes me a fair snob, lol.
