I've just learned that this is Rory’s "morning coffee position" -- every single day. Rory rests her little chinny chin chin on her meowmy's leg whilst she enjoys a cup or two.

I've been missing in action for a few weeks but I'm back now, sort of! Can't miss the opportunity to say

to this sweet little nugget!

It's been 17 years of bliss with this girl. She's just the sweetest kitty ever, except when she's at the vet or cat shows. :)

I mean seriously, she hasn't changed a bit! I'm so grateful for all the years with her. Here's to many more, Lily!

 Lily seems to be getting a little better about sitting on my lap. She used to sit on my lap frequently when she was a kitten but got away from it over the past few years.

It has taken quite a bit of diligence to get her back in the habit of sitting on my lap. Why would she choose to nap on the floor when she could sleep on my comfy lap?

Little by little, she is staying a bit longer each time I capture her!

 We are back from a trip to Texas to visit our daughter, son-in-law, and of course -- Cousin Rory! Although she still won't sit on my lap or purr for me, she was friendly and fairly social. Given enough time with her, I'm sure we'd be best friends!

Rory reminds me so much of our sweet kitty Tinsel who has been gone for a few years now. But Rory is soooo much bigger. Her feet are huge!

She's not a fan of bows, but of course that didn't stop me! :) She was sporting this purple tuile bow just long enough for me to take a picture.

I love how her fur sticks out on the back of her head. Makes me laugh! It fits her goofy personality!

She's such a sweet girl! She's definitely living her best life!

 Happy Birthday to Lily!

This sweet girl turned 17 on April 5! It's hard to believe she's that old. I'm thankful for her continuing good health and appreciate all the joy she brings to my life every single day!

 Last weekend, Lily got the idea to go up on the fireplace mantel. Now that she's a senior girl, she needs a little help getting up there. I'm only happy to oblige! 

She likes to walk across the mantel and sit on the deep shelves on either side. Sometimes she stands on her tippy toes and looks out the windows.

 This time, she was content to just sit by the picture of our sweet Tinsel who has been gone since 2017.

I miss Sissy, too, Lily. So very much. 💓

Feline Friday: At the Spa

Oh, my goodness, it is soooo dry in our house that we might as well be living in the desert. Humidity lower than 20% can't be good for us or Lily!

I recently bought a small humidifier which is helping with our desert-like conditions. Lily is suprisingly interested in it! Whenever it's on, she plants herself right next to it.

 

 It must feel like a spa day to her! It sure does to me!

Learning to be a lap kitty!

Although Lily used to be a lap cat, she isn't a lap cat anymore. For the past few years, she has refused to sit on my lap, except for when I'm having breakfast and have my feet up on the rung of the chair. If I'm sitting on the couch with my feet up on the ottoman, my legs are slightly inclined which must be uncomfortable for her.

Lately I've been actually lying down on the couch in an effort to get her to stay on my lap. It seems to be working, at least part of the time! Although I have to put her on my lap, she'll often get comfy and stay for awhile.

 The downside is that if I'm totally lying down, we BOTH fall asleep! :)

Feline Friday with Rory

 It’s time for our occasional dose of cuteness from Cousin Rory in Texas!

Texas recently went through another cold spell, meaning that Rory had to stay undercovers for a few days. Her fur is much thinner than Lily's so she seems to get chilly!

Once the ice melted and it warmed back up again, she was back to her normal "patrols" around the house. Rory keeps an eye on most everything -- watching out for wildlife, fighting neighbor cats through the windows, and capturing small lizards that somehow make their way inside (YIKES).

 Except when she's snoozing, of course! Then absolutely NOTHING gets done! :)

 We're in the deep freeze here in Iowa but now that the Christmas trees are finally put away, Lily's cat tree has been moved back to its sunny spot next to the kitchen window. This is her favorite place to nap in the afternoons, provided the sun is shining.

When I approach her softly, she instantly begins to purr and those little feets start making "air biscuits" -- kneading in and out, in and out. It's just about the cutest thing you've ever seen!

Here's to plenty of time this weekend on your own "cat tree" or similar relaxing spot!

Enjoying our newly recovered Danish modern chairs! Lily never lays on furniture so we know she must approve!

 

Sporting a wet nose from eating canned food from a bowl! When Lily ate from a plate, her nose never got wet like this. It's completely adorable.

 Lily is not always ladylike! One evening this week, I turned on the light and found her like this, washing her tummy. :)

It can be hard to reach those spots, especially for a senior girl!

I always enjoy her various contortions! But there are a few spots near her tail that she just can't reach and are prone to matting, so Meowmy brushes those areas daily.

I'll do anything to help my senior girl!

Happy MEW Year to all!

 All the activity over the Christmas holiday proved tiring to Lily. She is a senior girl, you know!

She even played games, something she's not used to!

After the holiday festivities and all the extra treats, we're all looking to clean up our eating and exercise more. Lily recommends rotisserie chicken!

 

She's also decided to join me on the annual 30 Days of Yoga challenge at YWA. This is the view from my yoga mat! She's working on Resting Cat, one of her favorite poses. :)

 

 Here's to a happy and healthy year ahead!
