Lily can do many tricks, but did you know she can TELL TIME? I didn't know that either...until we got an automatic feeder awhile back!
We have set the feeder to dispense half of her dry morsels at 3pm and the other half at 10pm -- otherwise known as the Food Drop.
It didn't take her long (maybe half a day) to recognize the grinding sound the feeder makes when it's fixin' to dispense her tasty morsels.
But Lily has now learned to TELL TIME! She will sit at her feeder a few minutes IN ADVANCE OF THE FOOD DROPS and wait patiently for the heavenly chute to open.
In case you are skeptical, here is some photographic proof. This picture was taken at 9:45pm one evening. Waiting and watching....

Occasionally, she's just too exhausted to sit and wait so she FLOPS and reaches dramatically toward the feeder. SO CLOSE!
I have been watching Lily and have observed her doing this every single night, sometimes so weak from hunger that she rolls over and silently begs for help. It's terribly sad. 😉
Lest you think Lily only knows when 10pm is coming, I've also observed her waiting at the feeder in advance of the 3pm Food Drop.
She'll even GET UP FROM A NAP upstairs (hmmm...how can we tell she's been napping??) and come down to the kitchen to wait.
Luckily, this restaurant is "come as you are"!
YAY, it's 3pm Happy Hour! 😄

Love your Swaddled post, and this one as well! We had timer feeders for the cats but ended up having to discontinue the timer use.... Every time the dogs heard the cats food drop into their bowls, they would go crazy until we fed them, too! Even now, since we’ve been shut up indoors so much and have kept on a pretty routine schedule without being out and about, the animals ALL KNOW when it’s that magical feeding hour and are a nuisance until we feed them! How do they know that?! Lol!
haha That is funny about the dogs! They are smart cookies, for sure! It's crazy how quickly they learn. When Lily rings her bell for food, Tinsel used to come running. She would not ring the bell herself, but by golly she knew what that sound meant! :)
