Toys from my childhood

Over the summer, I moved the contents of my parents' attic to our house. Most of the stuff in the attic, it seems, belongs to me. All summer and fall it sat in our garage because I couldn't find the time or strength to go through the boxes.

Over the weekend, I tackled this little project. I went through box after box of my old games, puzzles, and dolls. They were dusty and dirty, but for the most part, everything was still intact and just as I remembered it. It's really important to me that childhood treasures be stored carefully and with respect, so I cleaned everything up and packed it in labeled plastic containers to store in our basement. I'm not ready to part with any of these goodies!

I grew up in the 60's and 70's, so if you're about my age, maybe you'll remember some of these treasures! My Fun Flowers set (box and some of the tin molds are shown) was one of my favorite things. I loved to make all kinds of flowers and shapes with it. (Notice how these flower shapes are the same ones popular today?) I also found a few boxes of paper dolls (including a set of Dawn Doll paper dolls), my snow-cone maker (complete with instructions), a music box, my Lite-Brite (with all the pegs, of course), games, puzzles, and books. In addition to the goodies shown here, I cleaned up a dozen baby dolls and packed them away.

This is only a fraction of the things I have from my childhood. Credit goes to my mom for saving all of this for me. It's great to be able to hold these treasures in my hands and remember back on the part they played in my childhood.

I CAN'T believe that you still have your Fun Flowers! I had it also and I remember getting a bunch of bottles of plastic goop in my stocking one year. Do you still have the little oven/cooker?

Wow neat toys, I don´t have any of my toys from the past, but I specially like that gray "toy kitty" in the box lol!

Oops!! This post went up without the text! Now I've added it!

Kristina-I still have the oven/cooker! I have the whole box of supplies that came with it, but the styrofoam box has a lot of holes in it from something (maybe the goop leaked?). The tins are amazing! Wasn't it fun?

Lida-Of course, I had my "helper" when I was working on this project! :-)

How special to have all those great things from your past! I kept a lot of my old toys, but most of them...who knows where they went! :( I had a Lite-Brite too, and I *loved* that thing. I wonder where it went...

I can't believe you still have your Don't Spill the Beans game!! I loved playing that game! If we ever get together, you'll have to bring that so we can play.

OMG this is so cool that you have these now. I would love to have some of the stuff I played with as a child. We had a lite-brite and I do remember some form of the picture maker. Very cool. Makes me want to keep some of LADs things for him later. Do you think boys appreciate this stuff as much as girls do?

I TOTALLY need to get my Light Bright from my parents' home! My kids would be all over that one (supervised ONLY!)

Fashion Plates was another huge favorite of mine, and I still have it all, already here at our house.

Anyone want to play Fashion Plates, b/c I can't see any of my boys being too interested...
