More Childhood (& Beer Cans) for Sale

Blogging friends, my apologies for the lack of posts last week. A sweet older friend passed away unexpectedly and it knocked the wind out of me. She had been a great support to me in the past few years and could be relied upon for the wisdom that comes with life experience. It was a poignant reminder that each day we have on this earth is truly a gift.

On a happier note, I have had a few very good weeks selling on eBay. I've finally finished selling all of the Renwal dollhouse furniture that my mom had been given but didn't use in her own dollhouses. I had a lot of it, and it has taken some time to research it, group it appropriately, and get it posted and sold. This last set was a mixed bag with all of the leftover odds and ends!

With all of that stuff out of the way, I've gone deeper into my own collection of childhood toys. It's important to sell things while the market is still active! Remember Beanie Babies? For a few years, they were worth a lot of money and highly collectible. Now (with a few exceptions), they're not worth much. Right now, many items from the 1960's and 1970's are selling well so I'm trying to capitalize on that!

Here are a few of the items I've sold recently. If you grew up in the 60's and 70's, maybe you'll recognize some of them!

My Buffy and Mrs. Beasley doll will be headed to a new home next week. They're in good shape, expect Buffy is missing a shoe and Mrs. Beasley has lost her glasses. I have fond memories of playing with these dolls. If you watched "Family Affair" on TV, you may have had these dolls, too.

Chris, Barbie's little sister, is on her way to a new home out west. She has her original dress, shoes, and carrying case so she'll be able to hit the ground running. :) I often played with Chris and Buffy together since they were the same size.

These small dolls are rather unique, and I haven't seen a lot of them on eBay. They were made by Ideal and are called Pee Wee dolls. They're very sweet, and I loved the little farm-theme tote with the fold-down front. There's a cow on the inside! These girls will be going together to a new home next week.

Lately I have been selling my large "collection" of plastic animals by Marx. When I was a little girl, my grandmother worked at an upholstery company and after work, she would often stop at the dime store and buy me an animal. Over time, I amassed a LOT of them. I took good care of all of them, and most of the boxes survived, too. Three sets went to one owner out east and the other set is on its way west at this very moment. I am happy that they are going to collectors who will appreciate them!

 

I'm getting closer to selling my Barbie and Dawn dolls but just don't have the heart to do that quite yet. But I decided that I could part with my two Hasbro World of Love dolls from the early 1970's. This one (naturally named Peace!) has her original clothing, boots, hat, and stand. Her sister (appropriately named Flower!) will be going with her, along with their cute 1970's outfits.

The challenge with all of my dolls has been matching up clothing pieces, accessories, and shoes so that the appropriate pieces are kept together. I have the little brochures that came with the dolls and show many of the outfits, so that helps a lot. I am just starting that process for my Dawn dolls and Barbies. I will have to share some pictures as I work on this!

 I just sold my final piece of Liddle Kiddle jewelry, a sweet bracelet with a tiny doll inside. This one is on its way out west and is sure to make someone very happy.

Meanwhile, I cleared out much of my case at the antique mall to focus on selling Spouse's BEER CAN collection. Sheesh. He collected them as a teenager and HUNDREDS of them now fill our garage. The funny thing is that he doesn't even like beer (never has) and the smell of beer actually makes me ill, so the fact that I'm spending time selling beer cans is somewhat ironic. But they're collectible, so that's what I'm doing. (Although I'll admit that part of me would like to just recycle them!) 

 Here's hoping that this modest success continues and we can really pare down things around here -- especially those beer cans! :)
