Spirograph is in da house

Continuing on with the 60's-70's theme, allow me to share with you two of my prized possessions: My Spirograph and Super Spirograph, circa 1969.

Growing up, I LOVED my two Spirographs, even more than my Easy Bake Oven (which I still have, of course). They sat on a shelf in my parents' basement until recently, when I brought them home and decided to try them out again after all these years.

It took no time at all for me to remember that there is a certain degree of skill involved in using the Spirograph. Or maybe the word is
control. The more loops on the design, the more apt you are to screw it up just before you finish it.

In playing with the Spirograph, I discovered that the fine-tipped end of a Zig Writer works perfectly. Much better than those weird ball-point pens that originally came with the set. It seems a good use for pens that don't see a lot of action these days.

After a bit more practice, I might be ready to incorporate some Spirograph designs into cards or scrapbooking projects.

Or maybe I'll just keep playing.

  3. If those are pictures of samples you've made, you have much more "control" than I have! I'll have to get mine out and try again with the Zigs.

Hey, Cheri - how much are they going for on Ebay? (Not that I would sell mine . . . )

  4. Cheri-Don't get any crazy ideas about buying mine, at any price! ;-)

Jill-Is yours like mine? How fun! You will enjoy playing with it.

Connie-Yep, those are my samples so far. I think the Zig markers are much easier to work with than ball point pens.

    Fun times!! :-) Janet

  5. Ah, yes... I've been playing with mine since I found two again last fall (the regular and Super Spirograph). One thing I want to get is a big circle punch that I can punch them out to mount / add to pages or cards. I also found some colored Dollar Store pens that work well with it too. Have fun... can't wait to see more (so far they look great!!!)

  7. I am so jealous! I wish I still had mine. The cheap imitations that my kids have just aren't the same.

  10. Cheri-NO SALE here! I'll never sell my Spirographs! :-) But it's fun to see how much they're worth.

Maureen-I remember that you have one, too! A circle punch is a great idea. Now, do you have an Easy Bake?
Sarah, Linda, and Ryzmomplus2, you would have so much fun playing with these! It really is a blast from the past!

  11. Argghhhh....No, I no longer have my green metal EasyBake Oven... darn parents threw it away years ago. I have only dauhter's plastic model to "play" with now...

    ;)

Some day we've got to meet IRL and bake cookies in our EasyBakes whilst we create great works of art with our Spirographs...

    What say you?
